It's also about having full transparancy of the production process- from the body to the label.

"Made in Portugal" is one of those labels. Often seen, rarely questioned.

At first glance, it suggests that a product is fully developed in Portugal (Europe). But here's where things quickly turn shady in the industry.
In reality, "Made in Portugal" means that at least the final stage of production takes place in Portugal. The garment is cut, sewn, and assembled there.

But not everything necessarily originates from Portugal.

Fabrics can come from Italy, yarns from Turkey. Trims and components from different parts of the world. And that's not unusual. It's how much of the industry operates.
The label tells you where a product is brought together. Not the full journey of how it came to be.

And that's also where it can be stretched.
There are brands that rely on this definition. By only placing the label in Portugal or Italy, they are allowed to make the statement "Made in Portugal/Italy", even if the rest of the process happened elsewhere.

Technically correct. But not always a complete picture.

At Origin., we choose to approach this differently. For us "Made in Portugal" means that the entire production process takes place there. From knitting and dyeing to cutting, sewing, and finishing.
The only exception can be the yarn itself, which may come from another country. But once it enters Portugal, every step that shapes the final garment happens there. We work with GOTS-certified materials, ensuring that our yarns originate from responsibly managed and certified cotton sources. This allows us to stay aligned with our standards, even beyond Portugal.

This distinction is important because it creates space for interpretation. And sometimes, for assumptions. In the end, having full transparancy over the process matters the most.
